TORONTO SPORTS TEAMS

 

Sports fans have no lack of entertainment in this vibrant city and with the wide variety of professional sports teams there's always someone to cheer for.  Below you will find a list of Toronto's most popular teams with a brief introduction to each.  For more information or to learn about Toronto's semi-professional teams, check out the full list.  

 

The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of Toronto's most popular sports teams.  Initially named the St. Pats, a change in ownership resulted in the name change and a change in the team colours in 1927.  To learn more about the infamous hockey team or check for tickets, check out their website.       

In 1977 the Toronto Blue Jays played their first game in Major League Baseball.  Well known for their 1992-93 back to back World Series wins, this team continues to capture the interest and hearts of their fans.  The team can be seen at the Rogers Centre during any of their home games.
Both the Toronto Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies originated as an attempt to expand the NBA into Canada in 1995.  After the move of the Grizzlies to Memphis, the Raptors remained as the only Canadian team.  To find out more about the team, players or history go to http://www.nba.com/raptors/.
Of the 22 finals the Argonauts have entered, they have won the Grey Cup an amazing 16 times!  A professional team in the Canadian Football League (CFL), they are the oldest team in North America to still use their original name.  Started in 1873 this team has a long history in Toronto and large fan base.  
Toronto FC plays their games on Toronto's BMO Field which is located in the Exhibition Place grounds.  The team is part of the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS).  Their website provides information about different aspects of the team and is where you can go if you want to buy tickets to watch a game.

Raptors 905 is the D-League team in Toronto's basketball scene.  Created in 2001, the D-League is the official Minor League of the NBA.  Responsible for the development of the players, it is also known for the development of other members of the game such as coaches, referees and office staff.
